The soul descends into the body, it shouts: Vey, Vey, Vey. This descent is necessary in order to ascend, but is it all wortwhile?
A Hassidic Niggun
ABOUT
The Soul Descends is a reimagined version of the Hassidic Niggun, arranged for a women's choir. The original Hebrew text describes the descent of the soul into the body. I was first introduced to this melody by my mentor, Andre Hajdu, in Israel, as part of our work with Ha'Oman Hai Ensemble.
